FICTION: Acceptance

Coping with loss sometimes involves tearing down walls in a big way...

ACCEPTANCE came out of my following spoilers about upcoming TXF episodes during S7, specifically, Sein Und Zeit and the apparent suicide of Teena Mulder. (MulderAngst? How could I not??)

I didn't like the news regarding the nebulous elimination of the last of Mulder's family, but thought that fic-wise, I could definitely make use of the circumstances to drive forward the relationship that Mulder and Scully are nurturing, in my Crossing Lines timeline.

If Mulder and Scully had acknowledged their relationship shortly after the events of the first movie, then it was my belief that they had become a little "entangled" by circumstances around the time of Season Seven. I think that both parties would have been a little disenchanted with how things were not quite moving along as smoothly as they might have hoped. Throw in some mental anguish with regards to Mulder's mother and then his sister and this is what I pictured happening.

With this story, I was definitely going where I hadn't ventured before. And it's really an example of one of those odd things about being a writer and having readers provide feedback in that it ultimately changes or affects how your stories evolve. I certainly hadn't anticipated writing about M&S in this type of situation. Interestingly enough, though, once I had a few people urge me to let our heroes have some physical relief, it wasn't difficult to conjure up. To paraphrase Phillip Padgett, it just sort of came to me.

By the way, the version I have linked to above is stripped of its R-rated content, which leaves it much less than what it was meant to be. (You can find the original version on gossamer.org if you search for xgirl under the author listings).
